Rules and points
1.
Size class Small-
48 inches and under
Large- 56 inches and under
2. Draw distance 15 feet, two pulls allowed within a 20’ wide course
3. Qualifying Teams are required to complete two rounds to qualify for hitch money.
4.
Equipment
In the event of equipment breakage, the draw
must be taken over again.
Repair time is at the judge’s
discretion.
Note: equipment coming undone
is NOT breakage
(ie. Trace coming unfastened)
5.
Faults
Draws: faults disqualifying a draw
include:
- interference by helper
- teamster ahead of wipple
trees
- any checkslaps
- going over course markers
Teams: Faults disqualifying a team include:
- Failing to hitch in three minutes or three
attempts- which ever comes first.
- Profane language, either teamster or helpers
- Any unnecessary roughness in handling team while
draw in underway
(not necessary to be pulling)
- runaway teams
- failure to remain in drawing area until finished
competing.
6. Testing Ponies may be drug tested at any time.
7. Points All draws are eligible for points (10 best)

Ponies To
be eligible for points, there must be one pony from the original team
(limit to two changes) (ie.
Original team of pony A & B changes to pony A &
C).
Teamster has the choice to
remain with pony A &C or return to original A &B.
9. Measuring
All ponies must be measured to be eligible for
points, and to draw at
competitions that are run
under EDPPA rules. All ponies should be measured on
measuring day, which falls on the
1st Sunday in May.

Limits During
pony measuring, there will be a maximum of three measurements per
pony. During each measurement, each pony
must stand in a normal position,
with the top of its head not to be below
the level of its withers.
A new pony must be measured. A pony no
longer needs to be measures if it is
seven years or over, or if it has been
measured officially three times.

Heavy and Light Horse Pulls
NOTE: Pullers must have proof of liability insurance.
HORSE PULL RULES
- Any entry not furnishing a negative Coggins Test and proof of insurance, for the fiscal year, with a two million dollar ($2,000,000) liability clause, will not be allowed to pull.
- There shall be no alcoholic beverages used by teamsters, helpers or officials
- All teams must be weighed the day of the pull with a halter and loose shank.
- Light Class – 3600 lbs and under. Scales will open 1-½ hours before the pull. BOTH CLASSES PULL TOGETHER.
- LENGTH OF THE DRAW IS 27 FEET, 6 INCHES. LONGEST DRAW COUNTS, 2 ATTEMPTS. A total of 2 ½ minutes will be allowed to complete each draw. BUCKEYE PULLING SLED to be used when possible. Pulling sled to be drawn in both directions for two rounds and then only one direction for the remainder of the pull. On the second hitch, teamsters have the option of taking it immediately following the first hitch, where the boat is sitting. If he/she passes and takes the second hitch at the end of the round, then the boat can be spotted anywhere on the track as long as there is sufficient sidelines left. The pulling is to be centered between the two lines. To be eligible for a second hitch, a reasonable attempt must be made on the first hitch. Sidelines must be 18 feet apart.
- A teamster is allowed two helpers. Teamsters and helpers must remain behind the double tree while the horses are pulling. After completing the first pull, no change in teamster will be allowed, except in case of injury.
- A break in harness – the teamster will decide if he keeps the distance or will start over.
- A run-away team or team out of control will automatically be eliminated and drug tested at the teamster's expense.
- A pull will be disqualified:
a) if horses
step on or over lines or markers
b) if horses are beaten, lines are swung or foul language is used
c) if helpers interfere in any way after the horses are hitched
d) if teamsters or helpers head the horses while pulling or hitching
e) if teamsters or helpers slap, push or touch the horses with hand
lines or wippletrees while in the ring. NO CHECK SLAPS WILL BE
ALLOWED.
- Three circles passing in front of the boat or anything over a twelve-inch chuck will be classified as one pull.
- Any teamster or helper will automatically be ejected from the contest with all winnings forfeited if he/she argues with the judge, fair board, pulling committee or other contestants.
- NO CHANGING OF BRIDLES DURING THE PULL.
- DRUG TEST TO BE ENFORCED:
a) no drugs
allowed
b) no team or teams allowed to pull while under suspension with any
other organization
c) forfeit prize money and placing
d) additional penalty as the fair board concerned feels appropriate
